Sunday Afternoon
Dear Shepard
I had written you last week and intended to have it sent by Charles but on Monday it rained so violently at the time of' the stage posting that I had no idea he would go. I was quite disappointed although my communication is not very comforting - of you esteem it a pleasure to from home by every opportunity I will send both letters and _____will be doubly gratified. we are some better than last week Dossy seem to rally his spirits quite rapidly, as for me I never expect again to feel happy and well. The pattern of hats you sent I am much obliged for but cannot learn much from as the fit and shape of' a hat depends as much upon the crown as front, you need not get a frame as I have seen a hat that suits me and I can make one after that; I wish you would ask Mary Mott to purchase for me a half yard of lemon coulored silk or satin the shade of the piece enclosed as near as can be purchased. I think she will know better than you where it can be obtained also a pretty ribbon trimming for the inside my hat you know it maroon colour, she will know what will contrast well with it
yours affectionately Elizabeth
