Stony Brook, Sept 30th, 1852
My dear Sir,
Your kind note is at hand, inviting me to paint your portrait. I am sorry to say that just at this time I am not able to visit the City. I am just getting up from a bilious attack, and in a few days I expect to be stronger. If it would suit your convenience to board about a week at Mrs. Smith's Hotel, in Stony Brook, I will commence your portrait forthwith. For $75-or, if you can delay three weeks, I will paint you at your own residence (at the same figure) as I had rather take your likeness than any other living American Gentleman.
Wm. S. Mount
P.S. Oct 1st-I am not quite as well this morning, but I hope to be able to work in a few days.
