My dear friend,
I should like at some future time to paint the portrait of your dear husband (with your approval) for Mr. Ferd. Hood for one hundred dollars. providing I painted it at his, or your residence-although, it affords mc more pleasure to paint from the life than to make a copy. It is the feeling of most artists.
Mr. F. Hood appeared to be such an upright man that I am sorry to hear that there should be any difficulty between you. You are kind hearted and perhaps in after years you may think more kindly of him. However, you know best. I thank you and Andrew most sincerely for desiring me to spend some of my spare time this summer at Scrub Oak. It is a delightful locality, and I will try to make you a visit some time this summer.
Please remember me to the children, Annie, in particular. I send you a season ticket. The Academy closes on the 25th of June.

[Dropt a note to day 28 about the portrait.
