My Dear Sir I am pleased you have concluded to have your portrait engraved for the second edition of your valuable History of Long Island. I am acquainted with but few engravers and their charges I expect are high. As you wish to have your portrait engraved reasonable - the best way will be for you to seek out some promising young artist that can draw and engrave well.
Mr. A. B. Durand, Amity Street, on of our best painters and engravers, If you can see e him - will put you in the way to find an engraver to your mind, and give you every information necessary - prices &c.
J.W. Paradise 110 Amos Street is a good engraver. I saw a very fine portrait of the late Wm. Dunlop Esq. engraved by him - Have your portrait well done when it is done or not at all. A well engraved portrait of yourself will help to sell your work - think of that.
