My dear Sir,
By the annexed circular you will be apprised of the name of the new firm occasioned by the death of that noble and good man Mr. Vibert. His memory will always be cherished by all who knew him. Seldom I ever was so much griefed as when the ill fated news of Mr. Vibert reached me. But what can I say more to one who was well acquainted with him?
Now I come to scold you. Why don't you honor me with a little note? Say only three words, "I am better." and I shall never scold you again.
Three cheers for W. S. Mount!!! the great American Wilkie!!!
I have just received a proof copy of "Just in Time"! Admirable! Splendid! great! It is truly. How can I send it to you? I should however prefer if you will wait until good copies come here, so that you can show it to all your friends. We do not like to show proof copies but to the artist. Lasalle has done justice to your picture and I know you will like it.
Give my best compliments to our friends at Stony Brook. Take good care of-yourself and drop me a line soon.
Yours truly friend
À Monsieur W. S. Mount, peintre cel~bre
