My dear Sir,
Believing you to be a sincere spiritualist searching after truth fearlessly wherever it may be found, I feel it my duty to say that last week at the Telegraph office, 300 Broadway, Dr. Warner mentioned to me in presence of Mr. Partridge, that Mr. Stewart (medium) of the Miricle circle told a friend of his, that he (Stewart) was writing a book to show spiritualism to be a humbug, as he had deceived many prominent individuals interested in spirit manifestations and intended to bring their names before the public.
Now if Mr. Stewart is acted upon by cruel spirits (to his great injury) I am sorry for him, and I hope God will have mercy on his soul.
Ever since Ben Jonson, came out against the dark circles, there has been kicks at the miricle circle-certainly a want of charity.
As Messrs. Stewart, Partridge, and Dr. Warher are friends of mine,Iwish you would ask them when they are together about the above report. An explanation may be given.
The kind manner in whichIhave been entertained by yourself and the members of your circle has led me to drop you this note.
Yours, very truly,
Wm. S. Mount.
P.S. I have not mentioned this subject to anyone but Brother Shepard.
