I see by the papers that you are one of the Managers of the American Institute. I have, therefore, thought proper to request you to lay the following before the board of Managers of the Institute.
I received from the Fair of the American Institute in the City of New York, Oct. 1830, the first Premium for a painting representing a Country or Rustic Dance. I was told by the Secty. that if I paid two dollars I should be presented with a Silver Medal, but instead of the Medal, I was sent a Diploma. I value the latter, but I should value the Medal still more.
The vice Pres't. at the time was Peter H. Schenck Esqr, Edwin. Williams Recording Secy., and T. B. Wakeman Corresponding Secy.
I remain, Dear Sir, yours with great respect,
Wm. S. Mount
Martin E. Thompson Esqr.
