My dear friend,
Your kind note containing card portraits I have received, but could not find time to color them until this moment. Mrs. Ludlum desired me to paint her portrait handsome. Your photograph (not a strong impression) I have tried to make younger, by darkening the hair and whiskers. Mr. John R. Davis, with whom we drank cider, requested me to say, that he would be pleased to have you and any friend of yours to stop with him; when you are ready to look after more quail.
It will afford me pleasure to call and see you when I visit the city.
Yours, very truly,
Wm. S. Mount
P.S. You can have a large photograph taken from this card portrait if you desire. The position is good. If you should sit again, raise your eyes a little higher.
