Notes Thomas Gelston (1851-1924) was from Brooklyn (Bay Ridge area); his family owned the Fort Hamilton Hotel in Bay Ridge. He eventually spent summers in Quogue, where his decoys were carved. Around 1915, Gelston began selling his decoys through Abercrombie & Fitch.
